Graduation Time

It's graduation time in the Peterson Family.  Our  offices will be closed Thursday, May 17 - Saturday, May 19. 

The following classes will be conducted:  HSC 125 – Tot Summer Dress. Mom in this class you will make a summer dress for your toddler. Saturday, May 19. Time: 10 – 11:30am. Cost $20. Pre-registration is required.

First Annual Fashion College Tour Trip

Peterson Sewing School is sponsoring a trip for students in grades 9 - 12 to Stevenson University, located in Owings Mills, MD (just outside Baltimore).  

We will leave at 3am on Monday, June 25, 2012 and return Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 9pm. Upcoming Classes...

BFD 135 – Zipper Applications. In this workshop we will cover the following zipper applications: invisible zipper, centered zipper, lapped zipper, separating zipper and a fly front zipper. Tuesday, May 22. Time: 6 – 8pm. Cost $35.

FSS 103 – Beginning Sewing For Kids Workshop. Students must know how to operate a sewing machine. We will cover the basics of sewing as well as learn the tools of the trade. Students will master how to take proper measurements.  Wednesday, May 23. Time: 5 – 6:15pm.  Cost $30.

CTS 103 – Basic Cutting & Pattern Layout. This class is great for all ages. In this class students will master reading a pattern. We will also cover the following: how to properly lay the pattern out; cutting the pattern and understanding pattern symbols. Wednesday, May 23. Time: 3:45 – 5pm. Cost: $25.

FSS 133 Serger Basics for Adults. In this class you will learn how to thread your serger, how to set tensions, and the basic functions such as differential feed, locking off seams and sewing curves/corners and troubleshooting tips. A serger gives your garment a professional finish and look on the inside. Students will also complete a serged tote bag. Supply list: 1 ½ yard solid color cotton fabric, 1 ½ yard coordinating print cotton fabric.  Thursday, May 24. Time: 6:15 – 8:15pm. Cost: $40.

FAS 115 - Introduction to Draping. This class introduces students to the basic of draping. Students will understand why grain, balance and structure in a garment are important. Draping is vital in fashion designing. Friday, May 25. Time: 1 – 3pm. Cost $50.

ALT 110 – Repair It Yourself. Do you have an item in your closet that needs repairs? A torn shirt cuff; a hem hanging from a skirt or pair of pants? Ripped collar, hole in your pocket. Basic repairs only, one per student. Ideal for kids and adults. Limit 5 students. Thursday, May 24. Time: 5 – 6:15pm. Cost $15.

HSC 110 – Beginning Skirt. In this class students will make a beginner’s skirt using Simplicity Pattern 2576. Saturday, May 12. Time: 9 – 11:30am. Cost $30.

HSC 121 – Tunic Time. Kids, pre-teens and teens will construct a pullover tunic. Parents, bring the kids in after school and we’ll get this popular top completed in one no time. Wednesday, May 16. Time: 3:30 – 6pm. Cost $30.

HSC 125 – Tot Summer Dress. Mom in this class you will make a summer dress for your toddler. Saturday, May 19. Time: 10 – 11:30am. Cost $20.

FAS 221 – Flat Pattern Making – Skirt and Pants. Each student will learn the flat pattern techniques used in the industry. Each student will complete a skirt front & skirt back sloper. We will use our sloper to complete an additional skirt design. Supply list: alpha numeric pattern paper, oak tag paper. Supplies may be purchased from Peterson Sewing School.  Wednesday, May 22. Time 10am - 1pm.  Cost: $60.

FAS 230 – Flat Pattern Making For Men – The Shirt Foundation. This class is open to men, women or anyone interested in designing apparel wear for men. Men’s wear has evolved over the years. This drafting project is for the basic shirt. Friday, May 25. Time: 6 – 9pm.  Cost: $65.

FAI 101 – Fashion Sketching for Pre-teens and Teens. If your fashionista loves fashion and drawing, we have the ticket for her or him. This class will introduce kids to fashion drawing. They will learn how the croqui figure is drawn. They will learn basic techniques on how to draw clothes on the croqui figures. Students make their croqui figures, then trace them. Supply list: tracing paper, #2 pencils, colored pencils. Tuesday, May 22. Time: 3:30 – 5pm. Cost $35.

NYC Bus Trip

Bus trip to New York City (Manhattan) on July 21, 2012.  We'll leave from Price Chopper (Erie Blvd East location) at 5am.  Returning by 12 midnight.  Cost $85.

Private Lessons

Peterson Sewing School offers private sewing lessons.  Choose the projects that you want to work on.  On of of our skilled instructors will guide you through the process, step by step, one on one. 

Our private sewing lessons are tailored to your skill level and needs.  If you are a beginner, we can start with the basics.  If you want to take your skills to the next level or if you would like to work on a specific project allow Peterson Sewing School instructors to guide you.  Call (315-446-4668) or email (info@petersonsewingschool.com)  us to schedule your private lesson.

The Fashionista Club

Many of our students’ parents have inquired about an ongoing curriculum for their children and the possibility of a fashion show that the children can participate in.            

We brainstormed and decided on a fashion club for children. The Fashionista Club. We’re excited and we hope you will be too.  The Fashionista Club will begin on September 8, 2012.  An informational meeting will be held in August 2012.  The exact date of the meeting will be announced at a later time.

Peterson Fashion Academy

Peterson Fashion Academy has openings for students in grades 9 - 12.   Our mission is to provide preparatory fashion classes for the next generation of young fashion designers and for those who want to study fashion in college.

To date, Peterson Sewing School has a 100% success in getting their students accepted in fashion colleges and universities of their of  choice.  Those colleges/universities include:  FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), Tennessee State, Syracuse University, Clark Atlanta and Cazenovia College. 

Students will have the opportunity to take part in our Fashion College Tours every year. Our First Annual Fashion College Tour we are visiting Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Maryland. the date is June 25 - 27, 2012.
